KUMAR SIVAM
THE WAY WE ARE

Kumar's work reflects the lives of the people he meets and works with.

"I want to create images for future generations, so that our great-grandchildren look back and wonder at the lives we have been living and the people we were".

Kumar Sivam has lived with his family in Cornwall since the turn of the new century. During the Covid pandemic he started to take a serious interest in photography; in particular, in creating black and white images.

Kumar works as a vet in agriculture, in particular, in the dairy industry. This profession has given him a unique insight not only into the workings of the farm as well as the people who look after the animals in such challenging times.

There are the challenges both to the financial viability of the farming businesses and also to the very nature of these enterprises.

The current series “The Way We Are” sets out to record images of some people in Cornish agriculture with whom Kumar has a working relationship. The images aim to show the relationships that these people have with the animals in their care.

Kumar’s ambition is that these images will be looked at by the generations who will follow all of us.  That they will see aspects of the lives we led, the people we were, and they will wonder at a lost world.
